My review

Verdict first: yes, it's worth watching, and yes, on the biggest screen you can find. Dune: Part Two holds 92% with critics and 95% with audiences for a reason — this is spectacle in service of story, not instead of it.

Scale with a pulse

The sandworm ride is the set piece everyone talks about, and it deserves the reputation: a wordless sequence built on sound design and physical stakes rather than quips. Around it, the film's smartest choice is expanding Chani — Zendaya gets a real arc, including skepticism toward Paul's myth that the book only implies, and the film is better for trusting her with it. Chalamet sells the turn from boy to prophet without winking.

A blockbuster that trusts silence more than most dramas trust dialogue.

The cost

The middle sags for twenty minutes around the southern campaign, and at 167 minutes nobody was trimming aggressively. Then the duel arrives and none of it matters anymore.

Verdict in context

The strongest sci-fi sequel since Empire by several miles. See it loud.

  • Best in class: sound design, sandworm sequences
  • Patience required: some, and worth it
  • Skip if: you bounced off Part One's pace — this doubles down
